Blaga Dimitrova

Heart in my heart. Breath in my breath.

You were so close to me I couldn't see you.

Far off, over your shoulder, a dark peak loomed.

It felt as if I were running forward beyond you

I heard the crazy heartbeat of the stars

and braved the gusty wind cloaked in leaves

opened to greet the spreading shadows of the woods

whose branches searched for me with outstetched arms.

I swallowed distance in a single gulp,

pressed mountains, clouds, and stars against my breast;

and in that curve of space, where two sould clung,

I embraced the boundless reaches of the world.
